Assiwar is an Arab feminist movement that struggles against oppression in all its forms and shapes - on the Patriarchal, economical, national and ethnical level -, as the liberation of society, especially emancipating the frail and distressed sectors, necessitates combating all forms of exploitation. Assiwar believes that "Feminism" is a revolutionary political-social movement that strives to change the relations commen of control and dominance in society.
Feminist analytical approach attempts to extract all forms of exploitation, and tries to understand the complex conjunctures of these forms in all social aspects and in all levels. On the Patriarchal level, we see that violence against women and children, particularly sexual assaults, illustrates the image of male dominance in society. Such male dominance aims to achieve a sense of power and authority rather than to satisfy a sexual desire.
Sexual assaults are a social phenomenon where women and children are it‘s victims for being socially weak. Any woman can fall victim to sexual abuse, cince the only one who can prevent the abuse is the assaulter. Sexual assaults are a social crisis that we at Assiwar specialize in dealing with. We do not see the victim as a sick person who needs treatment or adjustment of behavior, rather, we see her as someone who needs support and sympathy to overcome her crisis. Confidentiality is extremely crucial to victims of sexual assaults due to the unsupportive social norms.
