Jordan: Rescind Order to Block Websites

 (Beirut) – Jordanian authorities should immediately rescind an order to censor 263 unlicensed local news websites. The government should also scrap recent legislation that allows it to encroach on online media freedom. The attempts to regulate online speech violate Jordan’s constitutional free expression guarantees.

“You have to start with the grassroots to build the movement of community media in Morocco. I think Moroccan is doing that, but we should strengthen the message also.” One international participant suggested to Moroccan community radios in a seminar, in Marrakesh, 1st Feb 2013.

Preventing refugees from entering Jordan to escape the conflict in Syria would increase suffering and could lead to further bloodshed and human rights abuses, Amnesty International said today following the Jordanian Prime Minister’s announcement that the Jordanian authorities would close the border if Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government collapses.

More Arab women are joining a women’s rights movement group to demand change and equality.

While revolutions swept through some Arab countries and toppled dictators in all of Tunisia and Egypt, women were still mistreated by both the revolutionists who promised fundamental change as well as regime supporters.
