This means that the revolution against social injustice is inevitably a political revolution for democracy. This is what the democratic social movement has been saying: there can be no real development that benefits the whole population without political democracy, without freely elected institutions, without freedom of expression.

L'image forte de cette remarquable explosion révolutionnaire tunisienne, qui reste incrustée dans les esprits, c'est l'image de cet homme qui brandit un pain pour réclamer la démocratie. C'est dire que la révolution contre l'injustice sociale est inévitablement une révolution politique pour la démocratie, ce que le mouvement social démocratique n'a cessé de répéter : il ne peut y avoir de développement réel, qui profite à l'ensemble de la population, sans démocratie politique, sans des institutions élues librement, sans liberté d'expression.

En 2010, la dynamique des forums sociaux s'est intensifiée dans la région Maghreb-Machrek, faisant écho au processus de constitution du Forum social Maghreb-Machrek et à la décision d'organiser dans la région plusieurs forums thématiques (syndicats, droits des femmes, environnement, santé, droits, etc.) prise lors de la rencontre du Conseil International du FSM à Harhoura en mai 2009.
