Saudi Police Open Fire to Break Up a Protest

Saudi police officers opened fire at a protest march in a restive, oil-rich province on Thursday, wounding at least three people, according to witnesses and a Saudi government official. The crackdown came a day before a planned "day of rage" throughout the country that officials have said they will not tolerate.

EMHRN has learned with great satisfaction about the positive outcome of the hunger strike led by 300 immigrants in Athens and Thessaloniki since January 25th.

Amnesty International has called on the Saudi Arabian authorities to reverse the ban on peaceful protest in the Kingdom, amid fears of a violent crackdown on mass demonstrations planned for Friday's "Day of Rage".

Gathered in Geneva during the 16th Session of the Human Rights Council, on March 4-5, the EMHRN Executive Committee praised the extraordinary courage and determination of the people in the Arab world, men and women alike, to win their freedom and put an end to decades of authoritarian rule with the young generation taking the lead.
