The Health and Environment forum is to be held in Cairo on the 23rd and 25th October 2010. Despite overall improvements in health across the Arab region, gross inequities remain between and within countries. In addition, the consequences of global warming are likely to disproportionately affect the poor and their lives and livelihoods.
The forum therefore aims to create channels through which those most marginalised can be heard and can influence the social, economic and health policies which shape their lives; consolidate a dialogue between the different stakeholders in the region; assist the process of needs identification in order to increase the effectiveness of NGOs in the area and create a platform for joint action in the spheres of health, environment and human rights.
The success of this forum is vital if steps are to be taken to increase the influence of social movements in the region which promote the health and rights of residents.
