In Morocco, collective land constitutes a real "land reservoir" (almost 12 million hectars). This land belongs to tribes and is managed by customary procedures ôrf.

This collective land used to be untransferable and could not be sold or rented. It was exploited collectively by the tribes.

Now the Ministry of the Interior, is taking proceedings towards the transfer of this collective land by compensating the men and ecxluding the women who belong to these communities (the Soulalyates Women).

In order to remedy this situation, the Soulalyates Women are organising a campaign to protest against, and raise awareness of, the discrimination they find themselves the victims of as a result of the transfer of their collective land. This campaign is being organised under the sponsorship of the Democratic Association of Moroccan Women (ADFM) and Alternatives Forum in Morocco (FMAS).

We, the signatories of this petition:

- declare our support for the Soulalyate women in their fight to acquire their rights in the allocation of their collective land;

- condemn the decisions made by the Conseil de Tutelle regarding the transfer of the collective land and the exclusion of the women from compensation.

• - call upon those people responsible/in charge at the Ministries of the Interior and Justice to apply the provisions made in the Prime Minister's memorandum, dated 8^th March 2007, which called on all minisrerial departments to integrate gender mainstreaming in all their policies.
