Trial in Death of Rachel Corrie Resumes in Israel
The trial for Rachel Corrie, the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) activist killed in 2003, resumes in the Israeli city of Haifa on 5 September.
A civil lawsuit against the state of Israel commenced in the Haifa District Court in March 2010, during which time the Corrie family presented witnesses, including ISM activists and British citizens Richard Purssell and Tom Dale. Both were with Rachel on 16 March 2003, when she was crushed by an Israeli army Caterpillar D9R bulldozer, while nonviolently demonstrating against Palestinian home demolitions with fellow ISM activists in the Gaza city Rafah. She died of her injuries after being evacuated by ambulance.
Palestinian anti-wall protester convicted by Israeli military court
Amnesty International has condemned the conviction by an Israeli military court of a Palestinian non-violent political activist who has been detained since last December because of his involvement in protesting against the fence/wall which the Israeli authorities have been building largely on Palestinian land.
Bedouin Village Demolished for Fourth Time
This morning hundreds of police raided, for the fourth time this month, the "unrecognized" village of el Araqib in the Negev and removed all of the 300 villagers, a majority of whom are children, women and elderly. Using two bulldozers, they demolished all the shelters and shacks built this past week, and all personal belongings in the shelters were loaded onto two trucks brought especially for this purpose.Ayman Odeh, Secretary General of the Hadash party, was detained on charges of disturbing the police.
Israeli, Palestinian Investigative Responses to Goldstone Released
Following the visit to Gaza of a sixteen-person committee created by the UN Human Rights Council, the United Nations released the results of Palestinian and Israeli investigations into Israel's 2008-2009 military attack on Gaza, Operation Cast Lead.
