Description
Presentation, history and objectives:

We are social and political movements struggling against neoliberalism, imperialism, social injustice and war. We are building solidarity between social movements at the local, national and international level. Our approach is both concrete (action-oriented) and intellectual (creating new paradigms). Neoliberalism is currently the dominant form of capitalism, against which several social movements have fought over the years under the banner of «socialism». However that banner has been partially destroyed with the collapse of the Berlin Wall and social movements all over the world are struggling to develop new alternatives.

Description
Presentation, history and objectives:

What is AGEG?

AGEG is a grouping of individuals with the aim of fighting against ‘globalization’ in Egypt, by way of spreading awareness of the dangers of ‘globalization’ and by acting to try to counter these dangers. The group started with a limited initiative in 2001, and over the following years this initiative has succeeded in greatly expanding its scope of action.

AGEG locates itself in the broader international movement against globalization; thus it supports the demands of that movement and co-ordinates with it in its stand against the policies of ‘globalization’ pushed forward by the mega-corporations and international institutions such as the WTO and the World Bank.

The group resorts to all means of spreading awareness and mobilization, including organizing seminars and publishing papers, organizing action campaigns on relevant issues, as well as joining the initiatives of other groups whose aims coincide with the principles of the group.

What ‘globalization’ are we against?

We use ‘globalization’ to denote the endeavours of corporations and giant capitalists – through the governments of the major economic powers, especially the United States, and through international organizations such as the WTO – which aim to control and monopolize the world’s resources and markets, and to remove any territorial or national barriers that impede this aim, regardless of cost to people or the environment. The result of which – contrary to what pro-globalization propaganda would have us believe - is to increase the suffering of the majority of the world’s populations, especially those living in developing countries.

Since the nineties, the United States and its allies have enjoyed unchallenged and vast political, economic and military power, and have deployed this power across the globe to achieve such aims. In the developing world especially, pressure is being exerted on developing countries directly – through economic pressure and military force - or indirectly - through international institutions such as the World Bank – in order to change laws and open markets under the pretext of facilitating integration into the world economy.

‘Globalization’ is removing the rights and livelihoods of people everywhere and placing control over them in the hands of a small group of beneficiaries, interested only in increasing their profits. The reaction of people across the globe to this gave birth to an international movement against ‘globalization’ with the idea that “a better world is possible”.

How can you Contribute?

AGEG is open to all those who agree on its principles and would like to participate in its activities. You can join the AGEG group directly and participate in its action committees and in organizing our different activities, which include:
